heart
FREE adult heart health class (including cholesterol, blood pressure, and pre-diabetes
education)- Three classes The first class, taught by a registered nurse,
looks at a variety of cardiovascular conditions, such as high cholesterol, high
blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, congestive heart failure, and pre-diabetes
and offers suggestions to help participants gain the best possible control over
those conditions. Taught by a registered dietitian, the second class looks at nutrition
and it’s relationship to overall health. The third session, presented by a master
certified fitness trainer, focuses on beginning an exercise routine without the
expense of going to the gym or buying fancy exercise equipment. The program looks
at physical activity’s relationship to a healthy lifestyle.

FREE adult weight management class- Three classes There are two
nutrition classes taught by a registered dietitian. The first class explores nutrition
and its relationship to overall health. The second class looks at nutrition and
weight loss. The third session, presented by a master certified fitness trainer,
focuses on beginning and sustaining an exercise routine without expensive exercise
equipment or gym membership. The program looks at physical activity’s relationship
to a healthy lifestyle.

for kids and teens
FREE class for the entire family Families will learn from
a registered dietitian about healthy living by making wise food choices, living
an active lifestyle, and developing new habits that lead to a healthier life. Topics
include: the food guide pyramid; fast food and soft drinks; healthy snacking; limiting
screen time and the many benefits of regular physical activity.

FREE Monthly 1-hour asthma management class Topics include how
our lungs work and what happens during an asthma “attack”. We will cover environmental
triggers, medications, treatments, and will provide tools designed to help control
symptoms. Peak flow meters, asthma diaries, and action plans will be provided.

for your colonoscopy
FREE Daily 1-hour class This one-hour informational class explains
your upcoming routine colonoscopy procedure and what you need to do to prepare.
Taught by a registered nurse, there will be an opportunity to have questions answered
by a gastroenterologist. At end of the class your colonoscopy procedure will be
scheduled.

FREE Monthly 1-hour class When your kidneys aren’t working properly,
it’s important that you follow a specific diet plan designed to help control the
amounts and types of food you consume every day. This class, taught by a registered
dietitian, will focus on what you can do to best meet your specialized dietary needs.
Coumadin®
management
FREE Monthly 1-hour class Coumadin® (warfarin sodium) is an anticoagulant
medication used to treat or prevent blood clots. It is very important to keep your
blood levels in a therapeutic range. Join us to learn what affects Coumadin® blood
levels and what you can do to keep control.
COPD
management
FREE Monthly 1-hour class Chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease (COPD) is a term referring to two lung diseases, chronic bronchitis and
emphysema. This disease is characterized by obstruction of airflow that interferes
with normal breathing. A registered nurse will explain the disease process and present
information regarding treatments and medications designed to assist with controlling
the symptoms associated with COPD.

support group
12 monthly- One hour sessions This course offers a
multidisciplinary education and support group and is designed to meet the needs
of patients after they’ve had Lap-Band surgery. Meetings are held from 6:00 to 7:00
PM on the first Thursday of the Month. Topics include: Mindfulness at Mealtimes,
Goal Setting, Exercise Basics, Emotional vs. Physical Hunger, Protein Power; So
you Think You can Step: Pedometers 101, 10 Common Mistakes of Weight Loss Surgery
Patients; Healthy Bariatric Eating/Recipes, Coping with Set-backs, Holiday Survival,
and a Celebration Dinner. Each month’s short educational topic will be followed
by an interactive patient support session.

Chronic
Disease Self-Management Program
FREE Weekly (for six weeks) Developed at the Stanford University
School of Medicine, the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program is a 2 ½ hour workshop
held weekly for six weeks. People with different chronic health problems attend
together. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom
are non-health professionals with a chronic disease themselves. Classes are highly
participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence
in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.

FREE Four Week session The first session, taught by a registered
nurse, covers the disease process, hyper and hypoglycemia, medications, and physical
activity. The second class, taught by a registered dietitian, looks at overall nutrition
and how food affects blood sugars. Meal planning and label reading will also be
addressed. The third class, taught by a registered nurse, will focus on sick day
rules, how alcohol effects blood sugars, and ways to reduce or prevent complications
associated with diabetes. Blood glucose meters will be provided to newly diagnosed
patients at a fourth class session.

up!
24-session adult weight management program & support group This
multidisciplinary program is designed to assist participants on the road to developing
a healthier lifestyle and lose weight safely. Monday and Wednesday evening classes
include nutrition counseling and activity education in a group support setting.
Attendance in the Adult Weight Classes (see above) is required prior to starting
the Lighten Up program. After receiving a referral to Lighten-Up by a physician,
participants will be notified by mail with enrollment requirements and class dates.

6-week, 7-session smoking cessation program It isn’t easy, but
we know you can stop smoking. Our instructor, V.J. Sleight, is a tobacco Treatment
Specialist who is certified by the Mayo Clinic. During this six-week, seven-session
program, she can teach you how to take control and provide you the latest techniques
to make you smoke free.

beginning and intermediate
Weekly class These classes are designed to teach proper posture
and breathing techniques at the beginning and intermediate levels. Participants
will begin to develop strength, flexibility and increased awareness in a comfortable
and relaxing group environment.
