The Riverside Art Museum has partnered with Dr. Irene Sanchez to offer Community Chicano Studies (CCS). CCS is a community-based learning experience that combines a brief history lesson from Chicano Studies and a corresponding creative activity. In this series, participants can choose to attend one, two or all three of the following workshops:

Understanding the Ancestors: Learn about the impact of the indigenous past/present on Chicano art and culture.

Uncovering the Myths: Study the influence of “fantasy heritage” on Southwest history.

Becoming Chicano: Find out about the impact of the 1960s fight for civil rights on Chicano identity formation.

This educational series will be facilitated by Dr. Irene Sanchez, a Chicana educator, poet and writer. She is a Latino Studies teacher in the Azusa Unified School District and Humanities faculty at Bard College in Los Angeles. One day workshop: $20; all three workshops: $50.
