FREE monthly renal nutrition class
When your kidneys aren’t working properly, it’s important that you follow a specific diet plan designed to help control the amounts and types of food you consume every day. This class will focus on what you can do to best meet your specialized dietary needs.
Lighten Up
FREE 24-session weekly adult weight management program & support group
This multidisciplinary program is designed to assist participants on the road to developing a healthier lifestyle. Monday or Wednesday evening classes include nutrition counseling and activity education in a group support setting. A physician’s referral and participation in the Healthy Weight classes (see class description) are required prior to starting Lighten Up. After receiving a referral, participants will be contacted by mail with class dates and information.
Coumadin® Management Class
FREE monthly Coumadin® management class
Coumadin® (warfarin sodium) is an anticoagulant medication used to treat or prevent blood clots. It is very important to keep your blood levels in a therapeutic range. Join us to learn what affects Coumadin® blood levels and what you can do to keep your levels under good control.
Asthma Management
FREE monthly asthma management class
Topics include an overview of how lungs work and what happens during an asthma “attack”. Environmental triggers, medications, treatments, and tools designed to help control symptoms will also be discussed. Peak flow meters, asthma diaries, and action plans will be provided.
COPD Management Class
FREE monthly COPD management class
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a term referring to two lung diseases, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, that are characterized by obstruction to airflow that interferes with normal breathing. The condition will be explained and information about treatments and medications will be discussed to assist in controlling the symptoms associated with COPDE.
Diabetes Management
FREE 3-session diabetes education program
Class 1 covers the disease process, hyper and hypoglycemia, medications, and physical activity.
Class 2 looks at overall nutrition and how food affects blood sugars. Meal planning and label reading will also be addressed.
Class 3 will focus on sick day rules, how alcohol affects blood sugars, and ways to reduce or prevent complications associated with diabetes.
Spanish education classes are also available.
Yoga
FREE intermediate and beginners yoga classes
These classes are designed to teach proper posture and breathing techniques at the beginners and intermediate level. Participants will begin to develop strength, flexibility, and increased internal awareness in a comfortable and relaxing group environment.
Living Well with Chronic Health Conditions
FREE 6 weekly-session self-management program
Developed at the Stanford University School of Medicine, the program is a workshop given two and a half hours, once a week, for six weeks. People with different chronic health problems attend together. Workshops are facilitated by two trained leaders, one or both of whom are nonhealth professionals with a chronic disease themselves. Classes are highly participative, where mutual support and success build the participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and maintain active and fulfilling lives.
Healthy Weight and Healthy Heart
FREE 4-session adult weight management and healthy heart class
Healthy Nutrition looks at nutrition and its relationship to overall health.
Nutrition and Weight Loss looks at food in relation to weight loss.
Heart Class looks at cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and pre-diabetes and offers suggestions to help participants gain the best possible control over those conditions.
Exercise Health focuses on beginning an exercise routine and activity’s relationship to a healthy lifestyle.
Fit Kids & Teens
FREE six-session monthly kids and teens weight management program
Fit Kids & Teens is Riverside Medical Clinic’s six-month physician-supervised, multi-disciplinary weight-management program designed to empower children and adolescents to become more physically fit, achieve a healthier lifestyle, and to reduce obesity and associated health conditions, such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, liver and heart disease.
